Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I hope you've enjoyed a wonderful week of celebration.

Since Christmas is now over, I thought I'd give you a little peek at some of the Christmas gifts I made for members of my family...

A Long Overdue Penguin: When I was in middle or high school I purchased a kit for making a family of Christmas penguins. I planned to make the three penguins for my mom, however, I only managed to get the baby penguin completed before the kit was stored away for somewhere around 10+ years. I recently discovered it and decided that I should try to complete the family. For Christmas, I finished the mother penguin. My mom has displayed the baby penguin every Christmas since I completed it, so I'm sure the little penguin is glad to be reunited with his mother...now to finish the father penguin!

Crocheted Trivets: I made these fun trivets for my mother-in-law. The kaleidoscope trivet pattern is by Sarah London (found here). I highly recommend this pattern, it is really enjoyable to make and the finished product is both beautiful and functional.

Typewriter Keys Pillow: My brother has a love for old typewriters, so for Christmas I made him a throw pillow with this really cool typewriter key fabric he picked out.

Faux Metal Letters: To go with my brother's pillow and his love of type (he is currently in grad school for art), I also made him some faux metal letters which spell out the word, "Art." If you'd like to make your own letters, here's a link to the tutorial I used.

Zippy Wallets: These cute wallets were made from Noodlehead's zippy wallet tutorial, available here for free. These wallets are the perfect size for holding gift cards, earrings, or other small trinkets. They are really fun to make and as Anna notes on her blog, you will likely find yourself wanting to make lots and lots of them...I did!

  1. Congrats on finishing the mama penguin. She's adorable and I'm sure you mother is thrilled to have her join the baby penguin.

  2. Where in the world did you get that typewriter fabric, I LOVE IT!!!!

  3. Hi Janel! The fabric is called "Circa 1934 Black Garbo" and is by Cosmo Cricket for Moda Fabrics. Here is the web address for one place where you can buy it: http://www.fatquartershop.com/Circa-1934-Cosmo-Cricket-Moda-Fabrics.asp
